Dongargarh, located in the Rajnandgaon district, is a major religious centre, being one of the three shaktipeeths in Chhattisgarh. Perched atop a hill at a height of about 550 m and reached by climbing over a thousand steps is Bamleshwari Temple which is believed to be over 2,200 years old. It is one of the 51 shaktipeeths of Goddess Parvati. Thousands of pilgrims congregate on the occasion of Navratri when a fair is organised here.
